Georgia Traffic Accidents
Every year, thousands of people in Georgia suffer injuries in vehicle accidents, with the numbers remaining alarmingly high. In 2022, approximately 1,797 people lost their lives in crashes across the state, underscoring the persistent dangers on Georgia’s roads. On average, Georgia experiences around 100,000 injury-related car accidents annually, resulting in over 30 deaths each week.
Similarly concerning are train accidents in Georgia, which ranks among the states with the highest number of train-related incidents. From 2018 to 2021, the state reported 277 train accidents—the most in the U.S.—leading to 33 injuries and nine fatalities. In 2023 alone, Georgia reported 135 railroad crossing collisions, which tragically resulted in six deaths and 37 injuries. These figures highlight residents’ dual risks on roads and at rail crossings.
Driver negligence, such as speeding, distracted driving, and intoxication, is the leading cause of car accidents in Georgia. Simple acts of carelessness, like failing to use a turn signal, often lead to preventable tragedies. Likewise, many train incidents occur due to vehicles ignoring crossing signals or attempting to beat an oncoming train.
