Georgia ATV Collisions
ATVs and UTVs are popular across Georgia, but they come with serious risks. In recent years, off-highway vehicle crashes have led to a growing number of injuries and deaths — many of which could have been prevented. In 2021 alone, 14 people lost their lives in ATV accidents in Georgia, accounting for about 4% of the 352 ATV-related fatalities in the U.S. that year. Between 2021 and 2023, a total of 66 deaths were reported in the state involving ATVs or UTVs.
Nationwide, more than 2,400 fatalities were recorded from 2018 to 2020 due to off-road vehicle crashes — a clear indicator of just how dangerous these vehicles can be.
Whether you’re riding through trails, farms, or open fields, ATVs present a number of unique safety risks:
- Rollover Accidents: Because ATVs have a high center of gravity, they’re more prone to flipping — especially on uneven terrain. Rollover accidents are a leading cause of serious spinal cord and head injuries.
- No Built-In Protection: Unlike cars or trucks, ATVs don’t have seatbelts, enclosed cabins, or airbags. Riders are often fully exposed, which means being thrown from the vehicle during a crash is a real possibility — and a dangerous one.
- Children Are Especially Vulnerable: Although ATVs require a strong grip, quick reflexes, and good coordination, many children ride them before they’re physically ready, increasing their risk of being involved in serious accidents.
If you were injured in an ATV crash — especially if another person’s negligence played a role — you may be entitled to financial compensation to help with the aftermath. Medical bills, lost income from time off work, long-term rehabilitation, and emotional trauma can all be part of your claim.
