Georgia ATV Collisions

Stephens Co., GA - 9-Year-Old Boy Loses Life in ATV Crash ATV collisions pose significant safety risks in the United States and Georgia. In 2021, 14 ATV-related deaths were reported in Georgia, making up approximately 4% of the total 352 ATV fatalities in the US that same year. Between 2021 and 2023, 66 deaths were reported involving UTVs and ATVs in the Peach State. Across the US, from 2018 to 2020, over 2,400 deaths resulted from off-highway-vehicle collisions, including ATVs.

Riding ATVs comes with many risks. Some of these include:

  • High Risk of Rollovers: With a high center of gravity, ATVs are at a larger risk of rolling over than other vehicles. Rollovers can lead to a higher risk of spine or head injuries, which can land victims in the hospital for prolonged periods.
  • Lack of Protection: ATVs lack seatbelts, enclosed cabins, and airbags, leaving riders exposed in collisions. If ejected, riders can land on hard surfaces which causes them to sustain severe or even fatal injuries.
  • Children at higher risk: ATVs require strength and skill to properly control them, however, many children operate them despite being too small for safe handling.
